Sustainability in Rosslare
Sustainability at Rosslare Golf Links
Below, I will be writing a blog on some of the key factors that go towards Rosslare being a highly sustainable golf course. In this developing time in our industry, it is of high importance to be as sustainable as possible and to help combat global warming. Be that from using less fossil fuels, to using IPM practices to reduce the amount of chemicals used on a golf course.
Our own Turf Nursery. Having our own fescue turf nursery allows us to be sustainable in regard to sodding and resodding areas on the course. It allows us to produce our own turf and to fill in the used parts when they have been harvested. It reduces the amount of fossil fuels of transporting the turf.
Electric Buggies. The addition of electric buggies in recent years, it has allowed us to reduce the amount of fossil fuels that we use. Previously, they had diesel-powered buggies which were very loud and used alot of fuel. Now we have reduced our noise and carbon pollution significantly.
Sandscrapes with wild flora and fauna. These are also an addition to us being sustainable as these allow for the eco system to remain sustainable and it allows a habitat for wildlife to flourish, aso opposed to leavung then bare just for play. It allows a place for wildlife to thrive and we need to preserve these as much as possible to coincide with playabity whilest also being eco-friendly.
And the final part I will discuss regarding our sustainability is our new state-of-the-art Rainbird Irrigation system. Although there is no need for the irrigation system now and that's for sure. However in the summer months when rain is scarce, it allows us to apply water to ensure sufficent water for the plant to photosynthesise. With the new system, we can manage our water output to be as efficient as possible, to ensure that we are not wasting water and over applying it when we dont need to.
It ensures that there is no water wasted and that water is not being pumped for no reason, further allowing us to reduce costs and eletricity use.
Overall we are a very sustainable course and in the coming years we will ensure to strive to be as sustainable and eco friendly as possible with the intergration of novel methods.
